They All Look Alike To Me

My practice group is composed of over 20 partners and also near 40 resident physicians. Among all these people, there are only 2 black males, myself and a 2nd year resident. Why are we constantly confused with each other. This other guy has a slightly similar build to me but wears his hair cropped closer than I do (I sport a baby fro). I am also almost 10 years his senior and he's alot better looking than I am.

It was all kinda funny at first, now it's becoming irritating.

Housing Market????

1)Live way out in the burbs or close to downtown? 2) Should I buy a house that is several years old or new construction? 3) Should I think about the resale value/potential primarily? 4) 3000, 4000, or 5000 sq ft? 5) How much house can I afford? 6) Just because I can afford it, does that justify the purchase? 7) Pool? 8) Housing developement or established Neighborhood? 9) Does yard space matter? 10) If I have difficulty selling my condo, should I drop the asking price a break even ? I think It's time to call my real estate agent.

Maids in The Midwest

I 'm here at the public library blogging. I was on call last nite and have the day off today. I'm sick of cleaning my condo, so I hired a maid service last week. They came today to give my place a full service cleaning. I'm extremely tired from call and want to sleep, but, I'm kinda weirded out by the thought of the maids cleaning around me while I'm passed out in my master bedroom.

So here I am trying to kill 3 hours at the library. And NO, the maids didn't look like anything in the above pic!!!

Long Term Care

My mother placed both my grandparents in a nursing home 2 weeks ago. My grandmother has worsening Alzheimer's dementia and my grandfather is disabled from a stroke 10 years prior. Their condition at home was deteriorating quickly and wasn't safe. In home nursing care just wasn't adequate. They are both very happy currently and have adjusted very well.

I've been thinking alot lately about purchasing long term care facility insurance for myself.

Loitering

Against my advice, my nextdoor neighbor started feeding this stray cat (she already has 2 gatos and won't take this one in). Now this little fucker is hanging around my house all the time. I don't know why, but I can't stand cats.

Give Me your Pity

I'm 35 yo and unmarried with no children. I went to a state medical conference today and ran into a few of my old colleagues I hadn't seen in several years. There seemed to be a trend in their responses to me. When they discovered that I was still unmarried, they bestowed me with their condolences and reassured me that everything would be OK.

I received similar pity when I told them I decided to continue working for the University as opposed to going into private practice. I had responses like, " Ohhh (forced smile) that's OK , I sure you're happy with that decision"

I guess I've turned into a very pathetic person over the last few years.......LOL

AGAIN!!!!

What joy!! I show up to my office in the hospital this morning. There's a letter on my desk from the state department of insurance.

I've been named in another law suit...Damn!!

Similar situation as the last. My name was on the chart as the admitting physician and I had very minimal participation in the patients care. In fact, several of my colleagues were involved between the time I admitted this patient and the outcome.... and none were named.

Does the plantiff's attorney even bother to read the chart or do they just look for names??

My name seems to be a popular one lately.

Female Libido

From the time I committed myself solely to the health care of women, nothing has amazed me more than the complexity of the female sex drive and sexual response. The male libido is fairly simplistic. Show a male a naked woman = male gets horny (If male can't get hard we have a pill to help him)

The female libido is influenced by multiple factors coming into harmony all at once. (Kinda like aligning all the planets). In my patients , these factors include female hormones, emotional state, relationship dynamics, self image, physical health, mental health, childbearing status and history of abuse

One of my patients was concerned the other day because she lost her libido after having her first child 18 months earlier. Her husband was starting to go to "titty" bars and she was concerned she was going to lose him. She said she could not stand the thought of initiating sex with her husband(She became digusted when he wanted sex) but she also stated that cuddling with him was no problem. I asked about the status of there relationship and she stated everything was great. He is a good husband, always helped equally with their child, wasn't abusive and treated her very well. I asked her several other questions to determine if there were some psychological or social cause for her lack of interest in sex, but nothing was apparent. She desperately wanted something to increase her libido.

I offered her Estratest (an oral testosterone preparation) since Testosterone is the hormone that makes us men horny 24/7. But I still feel that there may be some problems with the relationship that the patient isn't divulging. I also think here husband should stop going to the "titty" bars and become more attentive to his wife.

Almost There

After almost 2 years in multiple body shops, the '67 is almost home. Steve McQueen would be proud. I think I should don the blue turtle neck and suede sports coat with the patches on the elbows in his honor.

I always get chills everytime I watch the movie Bullit and see that scene where Steve's mustang runs down that black Dodge Charger on the streets of San Francisco.

I really need to sell this junker ASAP. .......But i Can't

Beautiful but Deadly

This is the tail end of the severe storm that spawned several tornados in the Midwest last week.

Eastcoast vs Midwest = being blown away by a handgun vs being blown away by a tornado

Strange Realization

Since birth, I've always had a weakness for the visiual appeal of thigh highs on a woman. What man can deny this?

But on the flip side.

Nothing offends and digusts me more than a patient that wears thigh highs to her annual pelvic exam. (I've had several patients don them during a speculum exam....and yes, I agree that's strange)

Little Voice

We were operating on an HIV positive patient the other day. I was at the sink scrubbing for surgery wearing a surgical mask and my vogue eyeglasses. I walked into the OR with my hands in the air dripping wet to be gowned and gloved by the surgical tech. A little voice in my head kept telling me I needed more protection for me eyes therefore I told the other nurse to put a splash guard (a clear protective visor) over my face before I gowned.

During the surgery, there was a huge spray if blood that landed all over my surgical mask and visor. If I wasn't wear the splash guard, the blood would have surely landed in my eyes.

Thanks , little voice
