Mommy Mommy!! I learned a new word today!

This was explained to me in detail by one of my patients.

I asked if she was sexually active. She replies "Just with Bob". I figured that "Bob" was the name of her boyfriend or husband. But in actuality it means:

B- Battery
O - Operated
B- Boyfriend/Buddy

My female medical student helped me to clarify this fact.

Duhhhhhhhh.....

I Am Now Free To Move About The World.

I think I've attained the world record for passport acquisition.

You hear horror stories of individuals waiting for 8 weeks thru the mail or waiting in crowed lines more than 10 hours.

I was in and out of the post office in less than 3 minutes and received my passport in less than a week thru the mail:-)

Not Bad!!

Happy Thanksgiving!!!!

I usually plan on delivering meals to the needy today but I'm fighting off a cold. I'm gonna stay in bed today and get some rest, then I'll make a strong attempt to go on at least one run to deliver meals this afternoon. I guess I'll just bundle up and try not to sneeze on the food ;-)

Although I received one of two dinner invites this year, I think I'll stay home and get some work done. I feel guilty, that I purchased a fried turkey from the grocery store yesterday (It was pre-ordered by a customer who never picked it up). But don't worry, I'm not going to consume the entire turkey myself. I'll just nibble and give the rest to the hospital staff. They'll clean it to the bone:-)

Happy Thanksgiving Everyone

I am Royally Screwed!!!! Kind of?

My Current Demographics: 37 years old; Single: No Children

Recent Excellent Retrospective study: A man's chances of reaching 100 years of age rose along with the number of children he had produced by age 30.

Compared to childless men of the same age, a 30-year-old man in 1917 who had one to three children had a 61 percent increased chance of living past a century, the data showed. However, a man's chances for extreme longevity almost tripled if he had fathered four or more children by age 30, the study found.

Fortunately for me : Other characteristics -- including marital and immigration status at 30 -- had little or no impact on longevity.
Finally, taller men were only marginally more likely to live to 100 than their shorter peers, the team found.

Ego

I guess life is a temporal journey to become a better person. Therefore, I see myself far away from my destination :-) I've always tried to suppress my ego in the practice of academic medicine. I try to approach the care of patients in a team like fashion where everyone contributes and everyone learns from the same mistake (whether you committed that mistake or not).

I think what disturbs me most is physicians with huge Egos. Individuals who have a propensity to trash their colleagues in front of their peers or other patients in order to boost there own egos and project themselves as a "saviour". These individuals scare me the most because their primary concern in the practice of medicine is not the patient, but themselves. I see them as more likely to cause harm than healing.

Well...on with the journey........
