Obama '08

I went to a fundraiser reception yesterday for Barack Obama. I had a brief chance to shake hands with him. I've been regretting the comment I made to him though.

I mentioned to him that I was a local physician and praised him for his ideas and insight into health care reform, stating that I hope his plans for a reformed health care system will "make my job easier" After reflecting on it now, I believe it may have been interpreted as a selfish statement. Of course that's not the way I wanted it to come across.

I guess that ruins my chances of being appointed to the position of Surgeon General.

Well at least I can still "practice my love with women" (thanks president Bush)

I'll Take the Newborn

I had dinner tonite with a friend of mine E. I've known her for almost 8 years and we graduated from residency together. She also works here in town as a physician and is a single mother of 2 very young children 3 yrs and 6months. I don't know how she keeps it all together. We had made our dinner plans last week and she mentioned she would get a sitter. I told her that was silly and to bring the kids along.

As a single man, sometimes I forget about the unique circumstances surrounding single parents of very young children. I arrived at the restaurant 5 minutes before E. I saw her SUV pull up and she got and started struggling with the car seats. I went out to give her a hand. The 6 month old weighed a ton. I had to strain to lift baby and car seat. The hostess lead us to a booth to be seated. I was trying to figure out what to do with the car seat (with baby in it). Do we need a booster chair??? E told me "just slide the car seat into the booth". The hostess repeated the same simple instructions....LOL. The car seat slid into the booth with ease. I sat next to the 6 month old. E sat next to her 3 yo daughter, I quickly realized that I chose the best seating arrangement. The 3 yo was a handful. The 6 month old just smiled giggled and kicked his feet as I played with him. Both children are the cutest. All in all we had a great dinner and I definitely know I need a little more practice before I start having babies of my own:-)

The First and unlikely to be the Last

I had my very first deposition yesterday. I have to say, I was nervous as hell. My lawyer did a very good job preparing me and she also had me come early to the deposition to give me time to relax. I still wanted to vomit under the table when the plaintiff's lawyer walked in. The unknown is such a scary thing. When he asked me the first question, I started rambling (something my lawyer told me NOT to do) Yes and No only!!!! I was rambling so bad, she had to kick me. I eventually calmed down. The outcome appears to be very positive for me at this time.

I'm very tired today, I was on call last night. Spent nearly the entire night trying to sew a patients uterus back together that had been blown apart during a difficult C-section. Hope to get some rest later today:-)
