Give Me your Pity

I'm 35 yo and unmarried with no children. I went to a state medical conference today and ran into a few of my old colleagues I hadn't seen in several years. There seemed to be a trend in their responses to me. When they discovered that I was still unmarried, they bestowed me with their condolences and reassured me that everything would be OK.

I received similar pity when I told them I decided to continue working for the University as opposed to going into private practice. I had responses like, " Ohhh (forced smile) that's OK , I sure you're happy with that decision"

I guess I've turned into a very pathetic person over the last few years.......LOL
