Need vs Wants 2

I consider a fairly intelligent responsible individual. But I don't always make sound financial decisions. I earn a comfortable salary and mandatory retirement deductions from my practice have help me quickly build my retirement account. I still carry more debt than I need (some of it bad!!! credit card debt)

The bottom line is I need a new car. My truck is having multiple mechanical problems. I've likely spent over $1000 in various repairs over the last 3 months. I'm out of warranty, so that includes rentals while my car is repaired. I'll have it paid off by July or August this year. I could ride it out, but because I'm a medical professional, having dependable everyday commuting vehicle is important to me. 4 wheel or all wheel drive is also a necessity for me esp. in this Midwest climate. I've been hook on 4wd's ever since I owned my Jeep Wrangler back in medical school.

There are many economical and sensible 4wd's out there, but my attention is drawn toward the Hummer H2. I test drove one this weekend and loved it. I had to measure my garage on Sunday to see if it would even fit. Gas milage is also very dismal, but I'm used to that already with the shitty gas mileage in my '02 Escalade.

I was looking at low mile used vehicles to keep my payments down and still qualify for the GM 100,000 mile certified warranty. I don't need this vehicle, but I want it. I'm worried that I'm an impulse buyer, but I have researched other SUV's extensively. A Tahoe would likely be the sensible economical vehicle that meets all my needs, but I can't suppress my desire to have a Hummer.

Is it greed, immaturity, ignorance, or overcoming some shortcomings in my adolescent years. I'm not sure.
