People Live Longer in The Cities???

There is a recent study that suggested New Yorkers are living longer than their suburban counterparts......on average 6.2 years longer. One reason may be increased physical activity in city dwellers. Many don't own cars or their cars remain parked for months at a time. Walking everywhere....to the grocery store, movies, restaurants. Some experts theorize that it's that kind of persistent moderate exercise that is much healthier than the 30min to 1 hour vigorous exercise at your local gym.

I live in the city limits, but my neighborhood and home are essentially suburban. This Midwest city maybe be large but has horrible public transportation. I drive everywhere.

Luckily , as an obstetrician my job can be physically demanding at times running up and down stairs, rushing to the delivery room on the labor suite, pulling and pushing (don't ask). I also try very hard to make it to the "Y" on a daily basis (But is it enough?) I remember when I worked for the federal government in DC before I went to medical school. I sat at a desk all day...consumed 3 meals a day including snacks and got fat. I'm in decent shape, but I feel like I could be in better shape, maybe moving into the the downtown sector of the city is not a bad idea.
